This short survey is aimed to help you determine which fellowship programs you are eligible for and best fit your interests. If you are eligible for multiple fellowships, there is no penalty for applying to more than one. In fact, some of our applications are designed to help you signal interest in more than one fellowship.

PhD Fellowship


The PhD Fellowship is a competitive, full-time fellowship program for students pursuing a doctoral degree in economics at George Mason University. Our PhD Fellows take courses in market process economics, public choice, and institutional analysis and work on projects that use these lenses to understand global prosperity and social change. Successful PhD Fellows have secured teaching and research positions at colleges and universities throughout the United States and in Europe.

Graduate Scholars Program


The Graduate Scholars Program is a competitive program for graduate students at George Mason University. Fellowships are open to full- and part-time degree-seeking Mason students from any discipline who are interested in studying key ideas in political economy and learning how to utilize these ideas in academic and policy research.

Undergraduate Scholars Program


The Undergraduate Scholars Program is a competitive, renewable fellowship program for undergraduate students at George Mason University. Fellowships are open to full- and part-time degree-seeking Mason students from any discipline or major who are interested in studying key ideas in political economy and learning how to utilize these ideas in academic and policy research.

Adam Smith Fellowship


The Adam Smith Fellowship is a one-year, competitive, renewable fellowship program awarded to graduate students attending PhD programs at any university and in any discipline, including but not limited to economics, philosophy, political science, and sociology. The aim of these fellowships is to introduce students to and encourage them to critically engage key thinkers in political economy that they might not otherwise encounter during their graduate studies.

Elinor Ostrom Fellowship


The Elinor Ostrom Fellowship is a one-year, competitive fellowship program awarded to PhD students from any university and any discipline, including but not limited to economics, philosophy, political science, and sociology. The aim of this fellowship is to expose students to the themes of markets, culture, morality, and sociality within the Austrian, Virginia, and Bloomington schools of political economy and to provide them with the tools needed to utilize this framework in academic research that explores these themes.

Oskar Morgenstern Fellowship


The Oskar Morgenstern Fellowship is a one-year, competitive fellowship program awarded to graduate students with training in quantitative methods who are attending PhD programs from any university in a variety of fields, including economics, political science, and sociology. The aim of this fellowship is to expose students to strategies for utilizing quantitative techniques to explore key questions and themes advanced in the Austrian, Virginia, and Bloomington schools of political economy.

Frédéric Bastiat Fellowship


The Frédéric Bastiat Fellowship is a one-year, competitive fellowship program awarded to graduate students attending master’s, juris doctoral, and doctoral programs in a variety of fields including economics, law, political science, and public policy. The aim of this fellowship is to introduce students to the Austrian, Virginia, and Bloomington schools of political economy as academic foundations for contemporary policy analysis, policy-relevant academic research, and other applied topics.

Carl Menger Fellowship


The Carl Menger Fellowship is a one-year, competitive, and online fellowship program awarded to PhD students from any university and any discipline, including but not limited to economics, philosophy, political science, and sociology.

Ronald Coase Fellowship


The Ronald Coase Fellowship is a one-year, competitive, and online fellowship program awarded to graduate students attending master's, juris doctoral, and doctoral programs in a variety of fields including economics, law, political science, public policy, sociology, and history.

Don Lavoie Fellowship


The Don Lavoie Fellowship is a competitive, renewable, and online fellowship program for advanced undergraduates, recent graduates, and early-stage graduate students. Fellowships are open to students from any discipline who are interested in studying key ideas in political economy and learning how to utilize these ideas in academic and policy research.

Exploring Complex Solutions for a Complex World Fellowship


The Exploring Complex Solutions for a Complex World Fellowship is a competitive, renewable, and online fellowship program for high school students. Fellowships are open to students from any high school program (whether public, private, or home school) who are interested in understanding political, economic, and social life.

James Buchanan Fellowship


The James Buchanan Fellowship is awarded to scholars in any discipline who have recently graduated from their doctoral programs (within the past 5 years) and hold an academic position at a university or research center. The aim of this fellowship is to encourage early-career scholars to critically engage ideas in the political economy of Adam Smith and the Austrian, Virginia, and Bloomington schools of political economy.
